One of the Top7 Smart Cities in the World: That’s a Win
Stratford is among august company.
This year’s laurel for Top Intelligent Community of the Year went to Eindhoven, The Netherlands, the global headquarters for electronics giant Philips, and the regional collaborative zone known as Brainport. Having been among the top ICF cities for several years previous, and with a compelling story of recovery from economic crisis through connectivity and collaboration, the win is well deserved.
Sure, landing the top spot would’ve been fun. Nevertheless, Stratford made a significant impression at 2011’s Building the Broadband Economy conference. With a contingent of 19 Stratfordians in attendance as a show of force (only three of them on the City’s dime) and a dynamic narrative of serial re-invention, we were a surprise among a field of ICF alumni.
To quote from the Beacon Herald’s coverage:
“For my money, Stratford was right there,” [ICF co-founder, Lou Zacharilla] said, suggesting that the city should hold its head high based on what it has done to reinvent itself as a digital centre of excellence.
“Stratford is really one of the great stories to be told in North America,” said Zacharilla.
